In 2007 the Caribbean hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup. The world one-day
cricket championship involving 50 matches between 16 nations over 7
weeks between March and April.
The opening ceremony began on March 11th and the first match of the
series was between West Indies vs Pakistan, on March 13th at Sabina
Park in Kingston and final will be held at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
The cricket matches are played on 9 Caribbean Islands across the region,
from Jamaica, St. Vincent, Trinidad,
Barbados to St.Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia,
Antigua, Grenada
and Guyana. After a few warm-up games the first round of championship
will be held in St Lucia, Trinidad, Jamaica and St Kitts between 13th
and 26th March. The top 2 teams in each league will then move onto the
Super 8 League (27th March - 21st April), in which they play 6 matches
each on the islands of Grenada, Guyana, Antigua and Barbados. The semi-finals
will be held in Jamaica on 24th April, St Lucia 25th April, followed
by the final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on 28th April.
If you are following the cricket world cup then we hope to see you during
your stay and at the National Cricket Stadium at Beausejour Cricket
Ground that is the venue for the ICC Cricket World Cup in St Lucia.
The England Cricket team will be playing in St. Lucia during the first
group stage on the 16th, 18th and 24th March in matches with New Zealand,
Canada and Kenya. The matches are being held in the North of the Island
near Rodney Bay. We hope that you all enjoy yourselves and we trust
