Rear view and garden

We transformed it from scratch choosing every old brick and hand painted tile with the same care that our builders devoted to the restoration. It has been our home for over ten wonderful years until we literally outgrew it and moved to something larger on the other side of Sarteano. The house sits on the side of a hill within five minutes of Sarteano with beautiful views across to the opposite hill and up to the castle in Sarteano. The property includes about 3,000 sq. mtrs. terraced garden including mature shrubs, olives and fruit trees with ample provision for dining out and little nooks to take your book and soak up the sun.

Accommodation as follows:
Ground Floor: Sitting/dining room with open fireplace and French windows to garden. Kitchen finished in handpainted blue and white tiles. Ample storage space, gas oven, gas hob, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, double ceramic sink. There is a small dining table and chairs between the two French windows leading out to the terrace.
Storage space under stairs with washing machine in niche.
Mezzanine: Study/Bedroom with large French doors leading out to rear garden: Double futon, sleeps 2.
First Floor: Master bedroom with French doors leading to external staircase: double bed, sleeps 2.
Double bedroom: double bed sleeps 2.
Children's' bedroom: 2 single beds, sleeps 2
Master bathroom: finished in handpainted tiles, fitted with bath and shower attachment, handbasin, WC and bidet.

Arteano is rapidly becoming one of the most desirable locations in Southern Tuscany. It is not difficult to understand why Sarteano has become so popular; the Autostrada is within 6 kms., Rome 1.5 hours., Florence and Siena both just 1 hour and the mainline railway station in Chiusi, just 15 minutes drive, has excellent services. All the magnificent medieval fortress hill towns fan out around the town; Montepulciano, Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, Montalcino, Radicofani and Città della Pieve are all within a radius of 45 mins. Lake Chiusi, 15 minutes by car, offers the opportunity for sailing while Lake Trasimeno, just half an hour by car offers a vast range of nautical sports as well as swimming. For the discerning traveller who wishes to enjoy a vacation in which a balance of relaxation, artistic and cultural activities, outdoor sports and an exploration of superb local Tuscan cuisine can be achieved, Tuscany is the perfect solution. In addition there are horse riding and fishing facilities close at hand and one can hire bicycles locally. Within the spectacular countryside lies the market town Sarteano, itself is a thriving little agricultural town with an enchanting medieval section topped by the Castle and fortress walls. Sarteano also contains a large park with 3 open-air swimming pools filled with curative spa water which provide excellent facilities for families. The largest pool has a pretty cascade that feeds in the water and has ample space for sunbathing. There is both a Bar and Restaurant within the complex. There are numerous excellent restaurants both in Sarteano and in the neighbouring area.

Airport connection: Florence - car just over one hour. Pisa 2 hrs. from Sarteano by car.
Rome - Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) Airport Scheduled Flights: Two hours by car.

Activities: During the summer months there are so many festivals that we are spoilt for choice, notably are the following;
Music: Terra di Siena Chamber music, world class music set in breathtaking locations. Organised by Iris Origo's (War in the Val d'Orcia, The Merchant of Prato etc.) daughters.
Umbria Jazz
Montepulciano music festival
Tuscan: The Palio in Siena
The Giostra del Saracino in Sarteano (Sarteano's answer to the Palio). Frankly just as spectacular, much safer for the horses as it is a joust rather than a race and not to be missed if you are here for 15th. August. A series of connected festivals are spread out from the last week in July for about a month.
